Cambodia, the country in revival

Cambodia is truly a land of diverse images. Crumbling yet majestic temples…deserted beaches…remote jungles…and a horrible history of genocide. All of these things have been part of the Cambodian experience.

But the Cambodia of today is a country in revival, a country whose indomitable spirit is embodied by the pride and resilience of her people.

The strife of a country in civil war has been relegated to the annals of history through museums and memorials.

The Cambodia of today yearns to be a place where people come to learn of ancient civilizations and great history. And that history begins with one of the world’s most enduring images, Angkor Wat….

The Angkor complex is one of the most extraordinary architectural and religious symbols ever constructed. Buddhism is once again on the rise as the country’s predominate religion, and Norodom’s royal palace has re-opened as a national treasure to be enjoyed by locals and tourists alike.

However this country has much more to offer: from Bokor Hill Station (called Cambodia’s ghost town) to Sihanoukville Beach there are many emerging tourist attractions. Among them are Tonle Sap, Asia’s largest lake with fishing villages and floating schools, and of course that grand artery: the Mekong Delta, flows into Cambodia with canals and a vibrant river life that attracts locals and tourists alike.
