Tourist Attractions

Laos' isolation from foreign influence offers travelers an unparalleled glimpse of traditional Southeast Asian life. From the fertile lowlands of the Mekong River valley to the rugged Annamite highlands, Laos is the highlight of Southeast Asia.

Vientiane
Vientiane, capital of Laos is Asia's biggest village. Busy and hectic in comparison to the rest of the country, it is quiet compared with any other city in Asia. Vientiane, as all of Lao's major cities, is situated on the Mekong river which forms the lifeline of the country. Here you can find fields of rice and vegetables, agriculture hidden behind tree lined avenues. The city offers also a mix of ancient gilded Buddhist temples and French colonial architecture. There is little modern in Vientiane. Old French colonial houses are being restored as offices and as restaurants and hotels. There are only a handful of modern buildings which sometimes look remarkably out of place in this quiet capital.

Luang Prabang
Luang Prabang was formerly the capital of a Laos. The city is located in north central Laos, on the Mekong River about 425 km north of Vientiane. This peaceful and charming town with its multiple temples and buildings dating from the colonial period is the former royal capital. Classified as a World Heritage site and well preserved, Luang Prabang is a city where time seems to stand still. Until the communist takeover in 1975, it was the royal capital, the seat of the kingdom of Laos. Today it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Xieng Khuang
Province of high mountains, karstic formations and green valleys, Xieng Khuang is the gateway to the mysterious plain of Jars, where scattered in the middle of the meadow, jars of all sizes can be seen. During the Vietnam war era, it was heavily bombed.

Pakse
Located in the south of Laos in the Champassak Province, Pakse is the second largest town of Laos. Although this small town is not yet well developed this is the gateway for excursions to Wat Phou, a Khmer temple dating from the 8-11th century and classified as a World Heritage site, and to Khong Island.
