Laos Northern Highlight 8 days

 

 

Day 1: Arrival Vientiane (D)

Arrive airport before transferring to the hotel for a briefing and welcome dinner. Overnight in Vientiane

 

 

Day 2: Vientiane (B,L,D)

Sites you'll visit in Vientiane on the second day include Wat Simuang (the city pillar temple), Wat Sisaket (the original Vientiane temple style), Ho Phrakeo (the former house of the Emerald Buddha image, which now rests in Bangkok), Patouxa (the victory gate), That Luang stupa (the most impressive stupa in Laos) and Morning market. Lunch will be served at Kualao restaurant.

 

 

 Day 3: Vientiane - Vang Vieng (B,L,D)

In the morning you'll take a scenic drive of about 150 Km to Vang Vieng, a small town surrounded by limestone caves and rivers. Along the way you'll visit Vang Xang, an archeological site dating back to the 11th century. Next you'll arrive in Vang Vieng for check in at the hotel. In the afternoon, you'll visit Tamchang cave and Tam Poukham cave.

Day 4: Vang Vieng - Xieng Khuang (B,L,D)

Depart through a mountainous road for Phonsavan. Along the way, you'll visit  hill tribes including the Laotheung and Hmong.  You'll have lunch at Sala Phoukhoun, before arriving at Phonsavan in late afternoon for a visit to the primary site of the mysterious plains of jars. These stone jars are believed to be around 2000 years-old. Very little is actually known about these jars, their origin or use. Let your mind wander as you feet guide you through this amazing archeological site.

Overnight in Xieng khuang

 

 

Day 5: Xieng Khuang (B,L,D)

Continue to explore the 2,000 year-old jars at the plains of jars site. Overnight in Xieng khuang

 

 

Day 6: Xieng Khuang - Luang Prabang (B,L,D)

We’ll visit a local market before driving through Luang Prabang. You'll have lunch at Pakhuaymixay restaurant. In the afternoon visit this former capital city of the Lanexang Kingdom including Wat Visoon temple and Phousi hill. Overnight in Luang Prabang

 

 

Day 7: Luang Prabang - Pak Ou cave (B,L,D)

In the morning, we'll visit the former royal palace of the last king where the royal utensils, uniforms, foreign gifts, and other various precious Buddha images are displayed. Visit Wat Xiengthong, site of the original Luang Prabang temple style. Excursion by boat up the mighty Mekong River to visit Pak Ou holy cave, which is filled with thousands of Buddha images donated entirely by devoted villagers. Have lunch at Ban Pak Ou village.

 

 

Day 8: Luang Prabang - Departure

Depart hotel at 6:00 AM to visit a collection site where monks gather their morning alms. Later, you'll visit the fresh food market before returning to your hotel for breakfast. Free time until your departure flight to your next destination
